Week 2 Day 4 Activity 2: It’s All in the Name

I've been to the Devil's Bath at Wai-o-Tapu Thermal Wonderland in Rotorua

And if we were to re name it I think that

  1. The Devil's Toilet
  2. Is it alive?*
  3. Green puddle of something!?
  4. A hole in the ground that smells funny
Are good names

  1. Hi Justice...great to see you blogging on the SLJ. There's still some time to complete the activities before school begins - how many more can you get done? Keep up the great work.

  2. Hi Justice,

It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. Goodness, you've created some pretty original names for this unusual green pond!!

I see that you prefer your second suggestion, "Is it alive?". That's really cool. I just wonder, though, if you think that would actually attract tourists. I think that's what the people in Rotorua are hoping to do by changing the ponds name from the Devil's Bath...

It does make you wonder though, doesn't it? When a pool bubbles and boils, is it alive??

Have you ever been to Rotorua to see these pools and the thermal geysers? It's such a mystical, magical place, I think. I've been there and I found it really fascinating. I have to say, though, that I didn't love the odour in the area. It does smell a little bit rotten, because of the chemicals in the mud and water.

I hope that you did have some great adventures visiting new places this past summer break and I hope you're happy to be back at school. Good luck this year!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
