DAY 5: Wasting Away Week 2 Activity 3: Faded Glory.

Three different ideas or strategies for raising funds to preserve the Great Barrier Reef. What could you do to fundraise here in New Zealand?

  1. We could Rome around the street and ask people for money.
  2. Run things out side of shops .
  3. have some kind of games .

  1. Hi Justice!

Way to go on completing day 5 for week two! I laughed when I read your first idea but your totally right. We could rome around the street then ask people for money. I really liked you third idea because it is a good idea to run games for people which is really cool that you thought of that! Great job Justice! Keep it up.

    Cheers,
    Amelia

  2. Hi Justice,

Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team.

You've come up with a list of some possible ways of raising money for work to be done to preserve the Reef. Have you ever been to Australia to see the reef?

Even though it's a long way from New Zealand, the health of the reef probably affects everyone in the world because we know that reefs are important for providing an environment in which fish can lay eggs, fish that we count on for our diets. They also help with the chemistry of the ocean, affecting how animals and plants cope in the ocean in general. So it's good idea for us to preserve and protect these special structures under the sea.

I wonder if could expand a bit on your idea of raising money by running things outside of shops. I'm not quite clear on your idea.

Certainly giving people a chance to pay for playing games would be fun. And giving people in public information about the Reef and then asking them to donate to this cause is another way of collecting some funds, for sure.

Do you ever do fund-raising at your school? We often have fund-raisers in our schools for things that we want to support, such as adopting animals, supporting programs that help other children, buying snowsuits for families that can't afford to purchase them each year, etc.

I hope that you're happy to be back in your class for this new term. And I hope you'll have a really successful year!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
